The earth is the Lord's

Hi Reader, Happy Father's Day. Today is a day to honor the fathers in our lives — the husbands, the dads, the men who show up for their families every single day. But on this Father's Day I want to talk about another Father. The one who holds everything — our finances included — before we even open the spreadsheet. Psalm 24:1 says: The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. Everything. Including the money coming in this month. Including the bills going out. Including the conversation you and your husband keep meaning to have about where it's all going. Here's something Wayne and I do every month before we sit down together to plan our money for the month ahead. Nothing long or formal — just a moment where we stop and acknowledge that everything we have belongs to God, and ask Him to give us wisdom, unity and peace as we look at the numbers together. The whole atmosphere of the conversation shifts when we do that — the anxiety and the defensiveness that usually creep in just seem to soften, because suddenly we're not two people arguing over a spreadsheet, we're two stewards of what God has entrusted to us, trying to honor Him with it together. That reframe changes everything. So the next time you sit down together to plan your money, try praying first — invite God into the room and remind yourselves together that you're not managing your money, you're stewarding His. Psalm 24:1 says it better than I ever could: the earth is the Lord's, and everything in it — and that includes your finances and your marriage. Happy Father's Day. Speak soon, P.S.
