This One Shift Made All the Difference

Hi Reader ,

This past week, our daughter won a school swimming race. No big deal, you might think—it’s not the Olympics. But for her, it was a huge moment.

Just four weeks ago, she was on the hockey team. She loved hockey and had been playing for three years, showing up rain or shine—whether it was a 6am practise or a 7pm match. No matter how tough it got, she kept going, determined to improve and be a team player. But instead of lifting her up, her team tore her down. They blamed her for losses, and even her coach was unkind. She started dreading every session.

As parents, we encouraged her to speak up, and she did. She spoke to her Form Tutor and switched to swimming. And everything changed. She found a team that supported her, encouraged her, and accepted her for who she was. She went from dreading practice to waking up excited.

And last week, she won the girls’ 50m backstroke—executing a perfect tumble turn mid-race! It was awesome to watch. She was beaming. And as parents, we were so proud.

This made me realise: success isn’t just about effort—it’s about the people around you.

She didn’t suddenly become a better athlete overnight. She simply found the right environment. She was supported, challenged in a loving way, and given space to thrive. That’s what made the difference.

And the same goes for money.

When you’re trying to get a handle on your finances, who’s in your corner matters. You don’t need someone yelling at you for making mistakes—you need a coach who will challenge you, guide you, and cheer you on.

That’s what I do. As a finance coach for couples, I help people align their finances and thrive—just like my daughter’s swim coach helped her find her stride in the pool.

Hello Reader , We used to think we were hopeless with money. Every January, we'd set ourselves some new money goals. Set strict spending limits. Promise ourselves this time would be different. By March? We'd be ordering takeout, feeling guilty and convinced we lacked willpower. Sound familiar? Here's what we discovered: We weren't the problem. The approach was. Most budgets start with the wrong question. They ask: "How little can you spend?" But the right question is: "What do you want your...

Beautiful golden labrador

Hello Reader , I had to share this with you because it was such a game-changer for our summer trip to the UK! We have just spent six weeks visiting friends and family, but halfway through, my husband and I were craving some alone time. You know how it is – as much as we love everyone, sometimes you just need your own space to recharge. So we started looking at Airbnbs for a week away... and nearly fell off our chairs at the prices. $2000+ for a decent house for just one week? My finance coach...

Happy family with Mickey Mouse

Dear Reader , If you’ve been doing all the right things, budgeting, cutting back, trying to save, but still feel stuck, you’re not alone. The truth is, most people don’t struggle with discipline. They struggle with direction. Because without a clear money goal, it’s hard to stay motivated. You can track spending all day long but if you don’t know what you’re working toward, it starts to feel pointless. This one mindset shift changed everything for us:When we decided to take our daughter to...
